Course Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread white, whole wheat, sourdough, or your preference
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 4 slices of cheese cheddar, American, Swiss, or your favorite melting cheese
  • Optional additions: sliced tomatoes cooked bacon, caramelized onions, avocado slices, or ham

Instructions

  • Preheat the Skillet: Place a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and allow it to preheat while you prepare the sandwiches.
  • Butter the Bread: Spread one side of each slice of bread with a thin layer of softened butter.
  • Assemble the Sandwiches: Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on a clean work surface. Layer each slice with a slice of cheese, followed by any optional additions you'd like to include. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up, to create sandwiches.
  • Grill the Sandwiches: Carefully transfer the assembled sandwiches to the preheated skillet or griddle. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted and gooey.
  • Press the Sandwiches: If desired, use a spatula or the bottom of a heavy skillet to press down gently on the sandwiches as they cook. This will help them cook evenly and achieve a crispier exterior.
  • Serve: Once the sandwiches are golden brown and the cheese is melted, remove them from the skillet and transfer them to a cutting board. Use a sharp knife to slice each sandwich diagonally into halves or quarters.
  • Enjoy: Serve the Grilled Cheese Sandwiches immediately while they're hot and melty. Pair them with your favorite soup, salad, or dipping sauce for a satisfying meal.
